Stay Alert

Boris Johnson’s statement has already caused a lot of confusion and anxiety.
His prerecorded speech to the nation was basically him looking into the camera and saying the working class can get back to work. He’s basically confirmed that the working class are expendable to protect capitalism.

There was not enough specification about which sectors of the country should go back to work. I see no importance placed on saving lives. We still don't have enough PPE (specifically smaller care services) and we're only JUST quarantining incoming flights? The government still hasn’t published how workers will be kept safe. So how can the PM – with 12-hours' notice – tell people they should go back to work if they can?

I’m not sure how allowing people unlimited time out, letting people sunbathe in the park, and go to the beach is going to prevent a second wave? ‘You have clearly shown social distancing for the past 2 months.’ Yet every day there has been a new headline, a new news report, a new photo of masses of people not listening to lockdown rules and not staying home?  As well as no mention of how to protect yourself if you do go outside other than keeping “social distancing”. Something that’s hard to do when everyone has unlimited time outside which they can spend anywhere. Easing lockdown rules when there are still new cases. Regardless of perspective and percentages, new cases are still cases. The country is being expected to use common sense and think responsibly. We know, that you cannot do that, everyone knows people will take this as being able to do what they want and still meet up with people. It was going on anyways. This is the country that freaked out when KFC had a shortage of chicken for god's sake.

The 'Stay Alert' slogan is far from clear, and it's in bright GREEN, which easily gives off the indication of the 'all clear' compared to the red stay at home banner. ‘Stay Alert’. This isn't a zebra crossing, it's a pandemic.  "It could have been a catastrophe"??? The highest death rate in Europe. The second-highest death rate in the world. Over 37,000 people dead,  despite a two-month head start. Care homes a national scandal, one of the first things we knew was that it targeted the elderly! This is a CATASTROPHE.

Boris is treating this pandemic like an election campaign. Let's be clear, it is not. People are dying. #BorisHasFailed is trending on twitter. What his supporters don't see is that people really, *really* wish he hadn't. We genuinely wish he'd proven us wrong & risen to the occasion because point-scoring isn't worth the thousands of needless deaths. The country has been left confused, which is not needed during a pandemic.

There shouldn’t be any return to any aspect of a normal life until it is 100% guaranteed safe to do so.
